Who Is in Jail in Maricopa County? How to Check

To see who is in jail in Maricopa County, use the Sheriff's Office inmate information search, which lists anyone in county custody by name, date of birth or booking number.

Quick answer

To see who is in jail in Maricopa County, use the Sheriff's Office inmate information search, which lists anyone in county custody by name, date of birth or booking number. The record shows the facility, charges and bond amount once the initial appearance has occurred. The jail information line can also confirm custody.

Using the MCSO inmate search

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office keeps a free public inmate information search for everyone in county custody. You can search by last name and first name, by date of birth, or by booking number. A match shows the person's booking date, the jail where they are housed, the charges, the court handling the case, the next court date and the bond amount.

Timing matters. A person arrested an hour ago may not appear yet because booking is still in progress. The bond amount appears only after the initial appearance, which happens within 24 hours of arrest. If the search shows charges but no bond, the hearing has not happened. Our inmate search guide explains each field, including what "hold" entries mean for release.

When the search comes up empty

No result does not always mean no arrest. Valley police departments, including Phoenix, Mesa, Glendale, Scottsdale, Tempe and Chandler, run their own short-term holding facilities for their arrests. A person booked on a misdemeanor by city police may be cited and released or held briefly at the city facility without entering the county system. Felony arrests and county holds are moved to the 4th Avenue Jail, and then they appear in the county search.

Other reasons for no match: a misspelled name, a different legal name than the one you know, a booking still being entered, or custody in another county. Call the jail information line at (602) 876-0322 to confirm. For people arrested outside Maricopa County, the sheriff's office in that county runs its own search. See our service area for the jails we cover statewide.

What to do once you find the person

Read the record carefully. Note the facility: 4th Avenue means intake in downtown Phoenix; Lower Buckeye, Towers, Watkins or Estrella means the Durango complex in west Phoenix, where releases take longer. Note the court and next date. Note the bond amount and type. "No bond" or a hold from another agency means a bail bond will not release the person right now.

If a secured bond is listed, that is the number a licensed agent needs. The premium is typically 10% of it, and the bond is posted at the 4th Avenue Jail Bond and Fine Room, 201 S 4th Avenue, Phoenix, open 24 hours. If the record shows OR or pretrial services, the person is being released without money and you owe nothing. The 4th Avenue Jail page covers pickup locations and timing after release.

Need a bond now?

A licensed agent answers any hour, confirms the custody location and bail amount, and posts the bond while you stay home.

Related Questions

Is there a public list of recent arrests in Maricopa County?

The Sheriff's Office inmate search covers everyone currently in county custody and is searchable by name, but it is not a chronological arrest log. Booking records are public, and the search is the practical way to check a specific person. Court case lookups show filed charges.

How long before an arrest shows up on the inmate search?

Usually within a few hours of booking at the 4th Avenue Jail, longer on busy weekend nights. People held at a city police facility do not appear until they are transferred to county custody. The bond amount is added after the initial appearance.

Can I look someone up in jail by phone?

Yes. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office jail information line at (602) 876-0322 can confirm whether a person is in custody and give basic booking information. Have the person's full name and date of birth ready. The line cannot take a bond or payment.

What does it mean when the inmate search shows a hold?

A hold means another agency wants the person kept in custody: a probation or parole violation, a warrant from another court or county, or an immigration detainer. Posting bond on the new charge will not release someone with a hold until that hold is cleared.

What if the person is in a city jail instead of the county jail?

City holding facilities in Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale and other Valley cities process their own misdemeanor arrests and often release within an hour or two of a bond posting. Felony arrests go to 4th Avenue. Call One Stop Bail Bonds any hour and an agent will walk you through it.
