Finding Someone in Custody

Use our Maricopa County inmate search guide to look someone up by name or booking number, read the booking charge and bond amount, and understand each custody status. Each county page on this site tells you whether that county has an online search or needs a phone call.

How Release Works After a Bond Posts

The jail verifies the bond and issues a release order to the facility holding the inmate. Maricopa County says processing can take up to 24 hours; in practice most releases take two to eight hours depending on the facility and the time of day. Smaller county jails are often faster. Our agent stays on the release until the person walks out.

Statewide Jail Questions

Do you post bail at jails outside Maricopa County?

Yes. We are based in Phoenix and arrange bonds at every county jail in Arizona. For jails outside Maricopa County the bond is posted by a licensed agent in that county or as a transfer bond. The premium is the same filed rate, and you sign and pay electronically from wherever you are.

How do I find out which jail someone is in?

Start with the arresting agency's county. Maricopa County and most larger counties publish an online inmate search; smaller counties ask you to call the jail. Type the city or county into the finder above and the facility page tells you exactly how to check. If you are stuck, call us and we will locate the person.

Why is the person in a different county than where they live?

Booking follows the place of arrest, not the home address. A Phoenix resident arrested on Interstate 10 near Casa Grande is booked in Pinal County; an Apache Junction arrest can go to either Pinal or Maricopa depending on the side of the city line. Tell us the arresting agency and we will sort it out.

Are state prisons and ICE detention centers on this list?

No. Bail bonds apply to people in pretrial custody at county jails and city holding facilities. State prison inmates have already been sentenced, and immigration detainees need a federal immigration bond, which we do not write.

Which jails are in Maricopa County?

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office operates the 4th Avenue Jail downtown (intake and initial appearances), and the Durango complex in west Phoenix: Lower Buckeye Jail, Estrella Jail (women), Towers Jail, Watkins Jail, and the Intake, Transfer and Release facility. Many Valley cities also run short-term holding facilities for their own police arrests. Our jails guide also covers every other county jail in Arizona, from Pima and Pinal to Mohave and Cochise.

Where do you post bail in Phoenix?

Bonds for anyone in Maricopa County custody are posted in person at the 4th Avenue Jail Bond and Fine Room, 201 S 4th Avenue, Phoenix, at the northwest corner of the building. The county does not accept bonds electronically. Our agent handles the posting so you do not have to.

How long after posting bail is someone released from Maricopa County jail?

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office states that release processing can take up to 24 hours after a bond is posted. In practice, release from the 4th Avenue Jail often takes two to eight hours, and releases from the Durango complex jails (Lower Buckeye, Estrella, Towers, Watkins) can take longer because the release order must reach that facility. Weekend nights and holidays are slowest.

How do I find out someone's bail amount in Maricopa County?

Search the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office inmate information system by name and date of birth or booking number; it lists the booking charges and bond amount once the initial appearance has occurred. Or call us at any hour and we will look it up and explain the release conditions.
