The Official Answer

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office states that release processing may take up to 24 hours after a bond is posted. That is the outside limit, and the jail controls it; no bail agent can speed up the jail's internal process.

What Usually Happens

At the 4th Avenue Jail, releases after a bond posts commonly take two to eight hours. The jail must verify the bond, run a final check for holds and warrants, pull the person from housing, and return property. If the person has already been transferred to Lower Buckeye, Estrella, Towers or Watkins, the release order has to reach that facility and the person is processed out through Intake, Transfer and Release, which adds time.

What Slows It Down

Weekend nights and holidays, when booking volume is highest. Shift changes. A hold discovered at release (another warrant, a probation or immigration hold) that stops the release entirely. Transfers in progress. Paperwork errors on a bond, which is why we triple-check ours.

How We Track It

After posting, our agent confirms the release order and checks status with the jail. You get text updates and a call when the person is out, with the pickup location: the 4th Avenue Jail or the Intake, Transfer and Release building on 28th Drive for Durango complex releases.

How One Stop Bail Bonds helps. Our licensed agents deal with release times after bail questions every week. Call at any hour and we will confirm the custody location and bail amount from the jail and court records, explain the release conditions in plain language, quote the premium to the dollar, and, if a bond is the right move, take your e-signature and post at the jail while you stay home. If a bond is not the right move, or not possible yet, we will tell you that too. Read how bail bonds work or use the calculator to estimate the cost.

Questions

Can I wait at the jail for the release?

You can, but it may be hours. We suggest staying reachable and nearby; we will call when the release is confirmed and tell you exactly where to be.

Why was the bond accepted but the person is still in custody the next day?

Usually a hold. A second warrant, a probation hold or an immigration detainer stops release even after a bond posts. We check for holds before posting, but holds are sometimes placed late. Call us and we will find out.

Does the person get their property back at release?

Yes, property taken at booking is returned at release, along with paperwork listing the next court date and release conditions.
