Pretrial Services in Maricopa County: What Supervision Means
What release to Maricopa County Pretrial Services involves: check-ins, testing, monitoring, how it differs from a bond, and how it interacts with bail.
What Pretrial Services Is
Maricopa County Pretrial Services is a court program that supervises defendants released before trial. Supervision can include phone or in-person check-ins, drug and alcohol testing, electronic monitoring, and reminders of court dates. The goal is to let people remain in the community while making sure they return to court.
How It Relates to Bail
A judge can release a person to pretrial services alone, with no bond, or in combination with a secured bond. If both are ordered, the bond must be posted and the person must report to pretrial services after release. We make sure families understand both requirements before pickup.
Common Conditions
Reporting within a set time after release, keeping the address current, testing, no new arrests, no contact orders, and travel limits. Electronic monitoring typically carries a fee paid by the defendant.
Violations
A missed check-in or a positive test is reported to the court, which can issue a warrant or revoke release and set a higher bond. If we posted the bond, a violation puts the bond at risk, so we encourage cosigners to help the defendant stay compliant.
How One Stop Bail Bonds helps. Our licensed agents deal with pretrial services questions every week. Call at any hour and we will confirm the custody location and bail amount from the jail and court records, explain the release conditions in plain language, quote the premium to the dollar, and, if a bond is the right move, take your e-signature and post at the jail while you stay home. If a bond is not the right move, or not possible yet, we will tell you that too. Read how bail bonds work or use the calculator to estimate the cost.

Questions
Does pretrial services cost money?
Basic supervision generally does not, but electronic monitoring and testing may carry fees. The court or program sets them.
Is pretrial services the same as probation?
No. Probation comes after a conviction. Pretrial services is supervision while a case is pending, before any finding of guilt.
What if the person cannot report because they were released at 3 a.m.?
The release paperwork states when and how to report, usually within one business day. Follow it exactly and call the program if there is a problem.
