Read the Paperwork Tonight

The release packet lists the next court date, the court, the case number and every release condition. Photograph it, put the date in two calendars, and send a copy to the cosigner and the attorney.

Follow Conditions Exactly

No contact means no contact, including through friends or social media. No alcohol means none. If a condition is unworkable, the attorney asks the judge to change it; the defendant does not improvise.

Hire or Confirm an Attorney

If a public defender was appointed, make contact. If not, hire a criminal defense attorney now, before arraignment. Early representation changes outcomes and can lead to lower bail or dismissed charges.

Report to Pretrial Services If Ordered

The paperwork says when and how. Missing the first check-in is the most common early violation.

Keep the Cosigner Informed

The cosigner is carrying the risk. Share every court date and every change of address or phone. If something goes wrong, call us together. See the cosigner guide.

How One Stop Bail Bonds helps. Our licensed agents deal with after release on bond questions every week. Call at any hour and we will confirm the custody location and bail amount from the jail and court records, explain the release conditions in plain language, quote the premium to the dollar, and, if a bond is the right move, take your e-signature and post at the jail while you stay home. If a bond is not the right move, or not possible yet, we will tell you that too. Read how bail bonds work or use the calculator to estimate the cost.

Questions

What is arraignment?

The hearing where felony charges are formally read and a plea is entered, usually within about ten days of initial appearance for out-of-custody defendants. Bail can be revisited there.

Can the person travel for work after release?

Only if the conditions allow it. Ask the attorney to request permission if travel is required.

What happens if the court date changes?

The court and attorney will notify the defendant. Confirm every date directly with the court or attorney rather than relying on memory.
